David Gunn

David Gunn is the Director of Pyka, a multi-disciplinary group of digital artist-educators working to reconnect students to their own creative capacity, their peers, their curriculum, and the wider world around them.

Pyka build apps and use them to deliver creative projects and educational courses, given to over 3000 children in over 50 schools across the UK (and counting). They are currently working on pyka_walk, a platform of playable sonic storyworlds designed for SEN settings and pyka_hack, where six schools participate over the course of two terms in the design and development of publicly released iOS app for a real-world client.

They have delivered high-quality creative work in range of cultural and heritage settings, including commissions and events for major institutions including Tate, Roundhouse, the Barbican, London Symphony Orchestra, Chapter, Welsh Millennium Centre and more.

Prior to Pyka, David led creative projects including interactive Sound Maps (for the Lower East Side Tenement Museum), site-specific music software for use in schools (Opera North), a Museum of Lies (National Museums Cardiff) and an interactive sound installation in a Phnom Penh housing project (Foreign and Commonwealth Office).

He has also worked as a strategic consultant for clients including Samsung, Orange, Arts Council England, Museum of London and the World Health Organisation. Most recently he has initiated White Noise, a creative project exploring the past, present and future of White City, including working with Turner-nominated artist Catherine Yass to suspend a Grand Piano over London’s BBC Television Centre.
